Brian Wilson's first ever solo set - Beach Boys Stomp, Greenford, UK, 1988 - with meet-and-greet
Переглядів 1,3 тис.Місяць тому
I've had this tape for years, ever since that wonderful day at Beach Boys Stomp 36 years ago. It really was the all-time fan moment, and totally unexpected, even after Stomp co-organiser Mike Grant had phoned me the night before to ask if I had a keyboard... I carried my mates Paul and Butch's DX7 on the tube, and set up the mic for "a guest". "How tall is he?" I asked. "About the same as you,"...

Bless Darian for arranging this. It's short but it's very, very sweet. ❤️🙏 (His love for the Love You album is a joy too!)
Macreavy-Neale perform the Beach Boys' Guess I'm Dumb & Goin' South at The Final Wave, Lutterworth

Ric Neale and I really enjoyed playing some "deeper cuts" at The Final Wave in Lutterworth on 20th April 2024. These were the first two, but the two set-closers (Tears in the Morning and Leaving This Town) ended up with audio dominated by a very chatty social huddle in "Gudge Corner" at the back of the room... Cheers chaps! 😉 Check out the "Beach Boys UK fan conventions" playlist for a growing ...
Beach Boys "In My Room" harmony workshop at The Final Wave, Lutterworth with Sean and Ric

A bit of fun reliving the real fun and pleasure of hearing these lovely old friends picking their Brian, Carl, Dennis and Mike parts for a hastily-concocted harmony workshop rendition of the Beach Boys' In My Room at The Final Wave in Lutterworth last weekend. This was the final two-minute fruit of our endeavours - well done, folks! It was such a great event, and this was one of the highlights ...
The Landys at the Marquee Club, 1995
Переглядів 522 місяці тому
This was an exciting day for us. Bassist Dave Lloyd and I sat in my car on a hot, sweltering day in Soho just before our soundcheck at the Marquee, listening to the radio. Our song Treehouse won Gary Crowley's "Demo Clash" on his Sunday afternoon GLR show. The legendary club was on a downhill slump at this time. It had moved from Wardour Street to a nice, bigger venue just around the corner. Bu...
Sean Macreavy's first ever Manchester gig - with Indigo Prime, at Jabez Clegg, Manchester UK, 1993
Переглядів 892 місяці тому
This was my first venture on to the Manchester live music scene after I got back from the States in early 1993. Band boss Andy Clarke (here on trusty synth, fuse replaced with the inside of a fag packet) described the sound he wanted as "Heavy Romantic". We were in a genre of one! It was a lot of fun playing and recording with Andy, Dave and the boys, and the band also introduced us to the incr...
Star Trek Convention, Anaheim, California 1992 - featuring guests 'Bill' Shatner and 'Len' Nimoy
Переглядів 5752 місяці тому
From my nine-month stay in L.A., I couldn't resist posting my second experience of American conventions... (my first was the Beach Boys shindig in San Diego!). Leonard Nimoy must've got *seriously* tired of Shatner's schtick! Still a joy to see them in the flesh.

The late, great Akebono training at his stable AzumaZeki Beya, in February 1992, a few months before he became Yokozuna Grand Champion. This is from my own camcorder footage. Rest in Peace, Chad Rowan. 🙏
"Reverse-engineered" tape mastering for Kōya Belharra's 2024 EP
Переглядів 2002 місяці тому
You know that studio masters used to be mixed from tape onto tape, right? And that now masters are made from digital to digital? But what about if we master from digital to tape and back again to capture some of that indefinable magic that tape brings? This was a wonderfully enjoyable mastering project for the marvellous Kōya Belharra. Their new EP is delicious. And a perfect contender for ana...

incredible...
Imagine how much cocaine was consumed on this tour! 😄
Paul’s voice is in fine shape.
I THINK THE BEACH BOYS ARE THE GREATEST BAND THAT EVER PLAYED IN THE EARLY YEARS OF MUSIC.
All that is so lovely - thank you guys❤
I was in a real Beach Boys mood in the summer of 1987 (I was 17 y/o), and obsessively rented/watched this doco on VHS while also reading the Steven Gaines book
That middle eight is even more mind-blowing in this version
No Bruce Johnson here?
Sorry but not g and c that’s for sure.
That’s da best UTD song I had on a 45 as 9yr old lad in Chorlton Manchester 🇾🇪
My god… I remember having a bad acid trip once and watching this performance, the rendition of Surfer Girl especially sent me overboard.
Great body of music
Wowww. What a great evening and so envious. We are certainly blessed for this video. Thanks for sharing your experience with us.
This concert bought back some good memories of seeing all the beach boys at knebworth and again at margate last june, minus some great names. God bless the beach boys and the members of the group no longer with us. The music will last forever .
Thanks for this concert. Really appreciated it. Charles lloyd sure had some groovy moves during gv. Haha. Americas greatest band.
Mike Love is so handsome, even at 83. His premature balding made him look older as The Beach Boys started out in their teens and early 20’s. But once he figured out hats detract from that look, his fabulous bone structure shone through, and still does.
Best BB documentary I’ve seen yet.
Transported back to a better time in the UK when optimism was in the air 👍👍
Love this. The Hotlegs track has bits that remind me of “Lovely Rita” and a bass line reminiscent of what’s on “Come Together”. Love 10cc. Interviewed both in Hong Kong after their tour of Japan and still remember saying that I would love to hear them work with McCartney. Close. Jeez, I hear lots of brilliant bibs and bobs here.
Now we just nee to AI-isolate the vocal and the instrumental for this version.
Crazy how this documentary that was released in 1985 feels more complete than the one released on Disney+ in 2024.
I clearly remember renting this on VHS tape in 1989 when I was 17 and becoming absolutely obsessed with their music.
My favorite 10cc song! Would love to hear the history behind the composition of this masterpiece. Amazing how all the interviews cover other song they did but not this one.
Check out our Consequences 10cc podcast on this very subject! About 90 episodes in, I think?
what a beautiful gem from the past. i'm crying.
My sister is doing her homework on the kitchen table, dad's in the garden, mam is getting tea ready and this on the old Cosser radio. Pure nostalgia.(sigh)
Exactly! Enjoy. 🙂
I'd be interested in hearing from someone more capable in this area. My point/question is, although, it sounds brilliant, is the problem with it that just around the corner immense changes were taking place with technology. Did they fail to consider the possible problem of Technological obsolenscence? Though does, in fact, the newer synthesizers do as good a job? Or any other technology?
Good question! Frankly IMO, synthesisers knocked spots off the Gizmo in terms of practicality and reliability, but that sound has never been matched or emulated!
@@smacreavy Cheers for that. But it's interesting that the sound achieved has remained unique.
La mejor canción del mundo ❤
Brian was not representing his demeanor very well. Thought Mike Love was gonna have a come apart!
Feel it's a complete travesty that Carl doesn't play the guitar solo in Feel Flows, as well. One of the greatest ever guitar solos in Beach Boys history. Probably the best.
Alan Freeman bring back more memories than absolutely any other DJ. Thanks for posting this.🤩
Thanks 🙏 so much for this so far unsurfaced TRUE GEM :-) !!! Did you produce more master tapes that have not been spread so far ?
You're welcome! I'm still looking through my old tapes.. I'll post any good ones I find! 👍
Great job except one of your backup singers was flat on the bridge. Just killed the vibe for me. But, still great to see an actual mixing board being used onstage for the ahhhs. Where did you get the big boys don’t cry sample? Or did you reproduce it yourselves?
Oh, good grief... 🙄
I've been sonically obsessed with this song longer than since I learned all that went into its creation. That includes when I watched the documentary video that first revealed the full bridge. Thank you for sharing. P.S.: Your upload of "How Dare You Side 1" might be blocked worldwide.
This is so awesome! Back then i remember getting his solo album on vinyl and just melting to each track. I would have loved to see him live. It would be around a decade before that would happen.
What a strange strange album. I used to see their album L in the cut out bins all the time - often not a good sign - but something about that cover kept nagging me to buy it and I was so glad I did. It was like prog rock but with a wicked sense of humor, often hard to find in Jon Anderson (don't yell at me. I love Yes) or Pink Floyd (them too). Then I was so excited to see the Consequences box set but alas it was too expensive for my teenage self. Then I read the reviews which were AWFUL ! One critic gave it an F minus minus or something. Young people reading this - don't ever listen to rock critics if such a thing even exists anymore. The only way to know for sure if an album is good is to hear it yourself. This is very different and a lot more abstract than L but it's just as wild and original and I love it. Thanks so much for uploading it !!
The best cover ❤
Wow, thanks so much!
I lend this to a friend years ago, he moved and i never got it back. Thank you for upload. And if you want it: UA-cam Music Downloader
Carl is drunk
Maharishi yogi was sleeping with girls,so just a man, nothing special, the Beatles soon found that out.
With all of the Beach boys docs this one is still the best hands down.
Beautiful 😍
Wow, thank you Chris!
Superb..so good to see this level of dedication to one of the greatest bands ever. Just a minor gripe, the lyric change on " second sitting.." ...I know these are delicate times, but it'd be great to hear it how it was written! Might be just me, I know.
Thanks so much. Yeah, that was a tricky decision!
The Champion climbs back in the ring. What a lucky bunch of coconuts there that day! My favorite 🎉. He looks so comfortable. 😊 maybe he is. Like the Vicar of Dibley when they almost get Elton John to the fete😂, what a surprise. Slow down video, at the end if you wanna try.
Hey! ‘Twas I who bought this for my dear friend Mr H.A.Milton - good to see it on UA-cam
I was at this show. I remember Brian smoking cigarettes and letting the ashes drop onto the piano. He looked like he was in a stupor.
I'm sorry but there is nothing more hilarous than at 35:19 with Al Jardine trying to make Mike and Brian stop arguing onstage
This is absolutely incredible! I was lucky enough to see him in Wallingford, CT during his 2005 'Smile' tour and it was one of the best concerts I've ever been to. Thanks so much for posting!!! 😃
Saw in Florida, then Hawaii, awesome! American gem 12 then 58+
The sight of mike love just ruins it for me
I have a crush on Brian. ❤
